Holt Island Quiz Night

WILDLIFE FEBRUARY UPDATE 2023

Our February update can be found HERE. This month, we were visited by a water rail on three separate occasions. Hopefully, we may have at least two water rail. The badgers are continuing to excavate, especially in the bee hive area.  Our muntjac duo have been regularly sighted, but the fox seems only to be a casual visitor.

BIRD AND WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS 2022

Last month, our bird and wildlife recorders were set a challenge to come up with our 100th bird species for the Island – our Chairman Tim did not disappoint; he spotted a pair of Scaup making a fly-over! There have been sightings of scaup on and off at Fen Drayton and St Ives gravel pits over the past few months.  The photo shows a Scaup which is similar to a Tufted Duck, but without the tuft, a slightly larger head, and the female has a white band across nose. Drake Tufted Ducks have black backs and white flanks; Scaup have a small black tip on their bills. Woodcock still appear to be on the Island. CLICK HERE to see the full list for 2022.
